In book 5, there's going to be a ship, possibly a sailboat, that's kinda inspired by pirates and the golden age of sail in general. But I need to figure out the sizes of these ships in comparison to things that I know the size of. What I mean is, while I have been finding plenty of videos and other resources that show various ships compared to each other, this information is largely useless to me because I don't have a point of reference that means anything to me. Like, one of Columbus's ships was 53 feet long. I don't know what that means in terms of imagining the size by comparing it to something that I know. Same for larger sizes. Without a useful point of reference, these size comparison videos are meaningless to me.

I'm also not sure how big to make the ship. I want it to be big enough that a crew and roughly 10 to 13 passengers at least won't feel crowded. No wait, double or triple that passenger count (at least) because I want the Ravenstones to be able to be oblivious to being followed and watched on the ship by a pair of other passengers.

I also want to have this ship have retractable, waterproof sails so it can go underwater, as it's manned by a crew of fish-people. (Well, actually octopus-headed people.) This might affect the size, I dunno. Remember magic is a thing here.

Any resources or insight that might help me sort these things out would be very helpful.
